WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEOFORE WE BEGIN WORK
Once you have decided on hiring us to install your decorative Curbing there are a few things you need to know.
During the ground preparation process, we do everything possible within reason to minimize grass clippings / dirt contamination inside the flowerbed however, there will always be some debris left inside after we are done So, with that said we recommend topping off your stone or mulching AFTER your curbing has been installed and not before.
While we are mixing the cement water pressure is very important to us so, please refrain from doing laundry or anything else that may affect the pressure in the water lines until after we have left the property.
If you live in a Homeowners Association, you will need to apply for project approval. In most cases they will have a basic request form for you to fill out. In this form they would want to know what type of work you are having done, the company who will be doing the work, they will want to know the color choices and a quick sketch of the location on your property for where the new curbing will be installed. If you should have any questions on this, I would be happy to help you with this.
Once a customer signs up with us, we will give them a copy of the contract with a diagram of the property lay out and a sketch of where the curbing will be installed along with a copy of the color choices. All the information you should need in order to get through the approval process smoothly.
If you live in Pasco County, they will also require an occupational license number which I will also provide for you at that time. Hernando county no longer requires this for Landscape Curbing Installations.
Next if you have any services who spray your lawn or around your home for pest control. You will want to notify them of our expected start date and request they put you on a hold as we get closer to your expected installation date or wait until after we have finished with your new curbing, and it has had at least 5 days to cure.
During the process of installation, I will be spending most of my time at ground level working on your landscape curbing and I try to avoid breathing in any chemicals sprayed by these companies when possible.
Your lawn service will also want to keep off your property for the first 5 days after your installation for proper curing. I recommend you have your lawn cut just before we are expected to start and then skip the next 5 days.
If you have any pets, PLEASE pick up after them before we start work and keep them away from our work area while we are there and away from your new curbing for at least the first 24 hours.
I will usually contact you after viewing the forecast for the upcoming week, either on a Wednesday or Thursday in most cases for scheduling. This will give you the time needed to prepare by making the phone calls to the lawn service
as well as any other contractors who may be coming onto your property at that time to reschedule them as needed.
It is never a good idea to have multiple projects going on while we are there installing your Curbing for many reasons, therefore we request you no not double book any contractors the same time we are expected to be there doing work.
It's usually the ones you wouldn't expect to interfere with the fresh curbing to be the ones who cause damage to the concrete.
Your sprinkler heads are another concern when installing Curbing. A lot of times, sprinkler heads will be hidden within the sod and in some cases even below the dirt level. With that said, we require you to locate and clearly identify all your sprinkler heads in the area of your new curbing installation so that we can avoid them with the installation of curbing. We will not be responsible for any damages to or the covering up of any sprinkler heads during the installation. So please have them clearly marked prior to our arrival so that we can see them clearly in order to avoid any mishaps.
Also, you will need to turn your sprinkler system off no later than the night before we arrive to start your project, and then keep them off for a minimum of 3 days after the installation is completed.
Rain is also a concern of ours especially during the rainy season here. I always watch the weather reports closely and make my decisions each morning weather or not to do any installations that day based on the forecast. We need a good couple of hours not just to do the work but for the curbing to set up enough so that any rain won't hurt the fresh curbing. We do carry plastic to cover the curbing if we get caught out in a chance shower but, would much rather avoid this completely so, please be patient during the rainy season. Once the curbing is down on the ground it will take a few hours to set up enough for rain not to harm it and I will contact you that morning should I feel uncomfortable about doing any installations that day.
Septic tanks clean out openings are another area that should be marked out prior to our installation of curbing. You can usually locate the lids by poking the ground with a thin rod until you find the lid then you will be able to mark out the area. Please have these areas marked prior to our arrival as well.
Holiday decorations and lawn ornaments should always be moved out of the way entirely prior to our arrival as well. This is something that can cause problems as we try to prepare for and install your landscape curbing.
Electric wires for any lighting should always be unplugged and clearly identified if not removed entirely prior to our arrival as well.
Last but not least, cable wires if you are aware of their locations, please mark these also. Our process does not require us to dig down more than an inch or two and these wires should be lower than that however, sometimes dirt will wash out in areas leaving these wires very near the surface. In the event we should clip one of these wires by mistake, you will have to contact whatever service provider you have to schedule them come out and fix the break. In my experience this is very rare to but, it can happen.
The better prepared you are for us, the more we can concentrate on doing the best possible job for you.
And as always, if you should ever have any questions about the process or anything curbing related, we are only a phone call away.
